Happy Halloween: My grandmother's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies

This year's Jack-O-Lantern creation, even pumpkins love to eat pumpkins!

This is a very special recipe passed down from my grandmother on my father's side. We made dozens and dozens of these every October and I even won a cooking contest with them back in college. I hope you enjoy!

Grandma's Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies:

Mix together the following:
1 cup pumpkin (canned is fine, fresh baked from the oven is better)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 egg

Dissolve 1 tsp baking soda in 1 tsp milk. Add to pumpkin mix.
Mix well with above ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips

Drop on greased cookie sheet (about 1/2 tsp size)
Bake 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Enjoy! And Happy Halloween!

  1. LOVE that picture! Someone did a great job with the pumpkins. I bought some pumpkin bread and I'll bet these cookies are even better. But I'm filled to the brim with pumpkin right now. I'll save this for later...

  4. Ha! That's different Jack-O-Lantern that I have seen. The cookie recipe sounds good, if it's your Grandma's recipe then it must something good!

BTW thanks for leaving comforting comments on my previous blog. We are okay here now, yep you may not have heard about the cyclone, probably it was really that quick! No turtles this time but a mudfish wagging on the street last night. Oh gosh...I post the picture soon.

  7. DJan: I admit, I stole that pumpkin design for something I saw on the web, but it was still fun to make it and change it a bit to make it my own. All the trick or treaters loved it!

Bethany: hope you enjoy, they are quite yummy.

Rae: thanks! but like I said above: can't take credit for coming up with the jack-o-lantern idea, just the carving bit.

AL: again, very glad to hear you're not flooded, you sure have had your fill of storms! I'm dying to see a picture of that fish...

Lisa: they are very good, hope you have a chance to make them!

Lulu: imagine little bites of pumpkin pie with chocolate chips....i'm sure with your culinary genius you will make a most divine version :)
